Financial Aid Eligibility Requirements
The items listed below are the general eligibility requirements for federal and state aid.
Please read more about the each of the specific financial aid programs to be sure you maintain your eligibility for your awarded financial aid.
File your FAFSA. You must file a FAFSA to establish eligibility for federal and state grant and loan programs.
Complete verification process if selected for verification. If you are selected for verification, you will be notified via your Hawkeye email.
Have a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma.
Meet required academic qualifications. In order to enroll in classes at Hawkeye Community College and receive financial aid, you must meet Hawkeye’s admission requirements.
Enrolled in an eligible program to earn a degree, certificate, or diploma. Most programs at Hawkeye are eligible for financial aid. General Studies — High School and Continuing Education courses are not eligible for financial aid.
Attend class. You must attend class on a regular basis and meet the Standards for Satisfactory Progress to receive financial aid.
Be up-to-date on your student loan payments and not owe an overpayment of federal or state aid. When completing your FAFSA you must confirm that you have been making payments on any pre-existing federal student loans and are not in default and that you do not owe an overpayment on a federal or state grant or loan.
U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. When your FAFSA is processed, the processing center matches your social security number to the Social Security Administration for citizenship and matches your permanent address with the Department of Homeland Security. If your FAFSA information fails to match the information either of these departments have, you will not qualify for financial aid.
Social Security Administration match. If your social security number listed on your FAFSA fails the Social Security match, we are required to resolve the discrepancy. Typically such discrepancies can be resolved by submitting a copy of your social security card to our office.
